Snow and ice blanket Ohio Valley, closing schools and making roads

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Winter weather is making travel something
of a challenge for people throughout the Ohio Valley.
Schools are closed in parts of Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana,
Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania due to snow and ice.
Freezing rain created a layer of ice on top of 4 inches of newly
fallen snow in Kentucky, and up to 6 inches of snow and ice fell
overnight in southern Illinois.
Treacherous driving conditions forced the National Park Service
to cancel a 199th birthday event at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace
National Historic Site in Kentucky. First lady Laura Bush canceled
a planned trip to attend the Lincoln event and to visit a school
damaged by last week's severe storms.
In addition, today's high school basketball playoffs for western
Pennsylvania have been postponed because of a forecast for 5 to 8
inches of snow in the region.
