Drought conditions continue across Eastern North Carolina and have actually intensified over the past few weeks. Rainfall has been averaging well below normal since last spring. Even since the first of the year most areas have received only about 60% of normal rainfall. The dry conditions are expected to persist through the weekend into early next week. From January 1 until February 7 total rainfall at the WITN-TV Weather Station has been 2.33 inches below normal. Last year total rainfall was about 19 inches below normal.
