A cold front was accompanied by strong winds and showers as it passed through Eastern North Carolina on Friday afternoon. Many locations had wind gusts of over 40 mph for several hours beginning by mid-morning and continuing through the afternoon. The strong winds were associated with showers but no severe thunderstorms were reported. Wind gusts reported to the WITN weather station included:
Swan Quarter - 54 mph
Manteo - 54 mph
Cape Hatteras - 53 mph
New Bern - 49 mph
Washington - 48 mph
Rocky Mount - 48 mph
Jacksonville - 44 mph
Greenville - 41 mph
Goldsboro - 37 mph
Winds will be light over the weekend.
