A major winter storm slammed the Midwest Thursday night with plenty of snow and ice. Heavy snow was reported during the evening from Missouri through Illinois and Indiana. Snow will accumulate from 6 to 12 inches from eastern Missouri through northwestern Indiana and Michigan. The snow will continue into Friday over much of the area before clearing skies return for the weekend. Some ice and sleet was reported in the mountains of Virginia, Maryland and interior Pennsylvania. However, the ice was expected to turn to rain on Friday. While the Midwest was shivering, the Southeast will see temperatures jump into the 60s on Friday.
