Winter storms have slammed much of China during the past week causing major problems for the Chinese people. The heavy snow storms, which are forecast to continue, caused dozens of deaths, blackouts and airport closures in southern, central and eastern China where snow and ice are rare.
The storms also took an extreme toll on crops. The impact on fresh vegetables and fruit in some places has been catastrophic. The transport crisis caused many folks to sleep outside or on the floors of schools and convention centers as they waited patiently for the trains to run again. There have been no reports of riots.
