BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- A winter storm battering the Northeast has
blinded drivers with snow, and sent temperatures plummeting across
Roads in New York and other areas have been slick and dozens of
schools have closed. As many as five deaths are believed to be
connected to the storm.
Authorities are investigating whether the death of a
construction worker who died in a scaffold collapse in upstate New
York was wind-related.
Winds have caused Lake Erie's water level to suddenly rise more
than 10 feet, raising concerns about flooding.
The severe weather is part of a system that has already knocked
out power to thousands in upstate New York, West Virginia, Ohio,
Illinois and Michigan.
Forecasters expect another storm to hit the West by tomorrow.
