A storm system moving through the deep south will spread a wintry mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain to central and western parts of North Carolina on Thursday.
Snow and sleet is expected to break out across parts of the piedmont and foothills early Thursday before changing to freezing rain and rain by midday.
One to three inches of snow is possible in places like Charlotte, Greensboro, and Hickory.
Winter storm warnings are in effect for much of central North Carolina.
