A Mild and Dry December

The month of December was dry and mild across Eastern North Carolina. At the WITN Weather Station the average temperature for December was 50.1 degrees or 3.8 degrees above the normal 46.3. Total rainfall for December was 2.50 inches or 1 inch below the normal of 3.50 inches. The current forecast calls for little or no rainfall for the next 5 days. The updated drought monitor indicates that much of North Carolina is still in an exceptional drought. The coastal area is in a severe drought with the remainder of the area in an extreme or exceptional drought.
