Weekend Rainfall Does Little To Dent Drought

Exceptionally severe drought conditions continue across much of Eastern North Carolina despite weekend rainfall. The heaviest rainfall over the weekend fell in central and western North Carolina. In the eastern portion of the state most areas received less than one inch and did little to alleviate the lack of rainfall seen across the area since the spring. Weekend rainfall amounts included the following:

Goldsboro - .86"
Rocky Mount - .83"
Greenville - .83"
Kenansville - .76"
Kinston - .71"
New Bern - .53"
Cape Hatteras - .50"
Washington - .40"
Lake Mattamuskeet - .16"
Elizabeth City - .16"

Little or no rainfall is expected for the first week of January.
