A batch of cold air is moving toward North Carolina and is expected to bring heavy snowfall to the state's mountains.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning or a winter storm watch for most of the state's western most counties. Those advisories will extend from noon on Tuesday to Wednesday night.
The weather service also said other parts of the state as far east as Rocky Mount could see some snow flurries on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Forecasters expect the mountains to get 4 inches to 6 inches of snowfall, with higher elevations seeing up to 9 inches. Winds will also increase Tuesday night, with some areas expected to see winds between 25 and 35 miles per hour.
Gusts could approach 50 miles per hour and push the wind chill value to subzero temperatures.
