The fifteenth named storm of the 2007 tropical season continued to weaken on Wednesday night. The storm did bring significant rainfall to Haiti and the Dominican Republic earlier in the day as she crossed that area. The winds in the storm were no stronger than 35 mph and further weakening is expected as she drifts westward over the next 24 days. Like so many tropical systems this year Olga will not impact the United States.
In an average tropical season there are only 10 named storms. Even though 2007 was an active year for the tropics the United States did not get any major hits. Category 1 Hurricane Humberto hit the upper Texas coast in September and was the only hurricane to hit the United States in 2007.
