December Heat Sets New Records

Summer in December has rewritten the weather record book in several locations in North Carolina.

In Washington, Monday's high of 79 broke the old record of 78. Greenville tied their high for the day of 79, while New Bern set a new record of 78. Kinston also set a new record with 79 degrees.

At Wilmington, today's high of 78 tied a mark set in 1966.

In Raleigh, the high reached 81 degrees. That mark smashed the record of 76 degrees set in 1972.

Much the same weather is expected for Tuesday, with highs ranging from the upper 60s in the mountains to the upper 70s and low 80s in the piedmont and along the coast.
