It was a chilly early December afternoon on Thursday as most areas of Eastern North Carolina stayed in the 40s for highs. The chilly weather will stick around overnight but a significant warming trend will get underway on Friday and last into early next week. Some representative high temperatures on Thursday include the following:

Cherry Point - 44
Newport - 44

Rocky Mount - 42
Roanoke Rapids - 42
Manteo - 41
