Drought Likely To Set Record

Eighty-five out of 100 NC counties are now experiencing extreme to exceptional drought. The National Weather Service in Raleigh has also indicated that November will go down as the driest on record at the Raleigh-Durham Airport. The Weather Service says the lack of rainfall is so pronounced that it will likely be the second driest year ever in Central North Carolina as well as the fewest number of days with measurable rainfall in a calendar year. The cooling of the Equatorial Pacific Ocean , known as La Nina, has intensified this fall and will likely contribute to below normal rainfall this winter.
