The United States was largely spared from hurricanes during the 2007 tropical season. The official forecast had indicated as many as 17 named storms would develop in the Atlantic Basin this year which includes the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. Instead only 14 storms developed and only five of them became hurricanes. Two of the hurricanes were major storms but they hit Central America well south of the United States. The only hurricane to hit the United States this year was Humberto. Humberto made landfall along the upper coast of Texas in September as a Category 1 storm. The official end to the tropical season is Friday, November 30.
