On This Date

In 1957, strong Santa Ana winds kicked up a 28,000-acre brush fire near Crystal Lake, California.

In 1992, 42 tornadoes moved through the Tennessee and Ohio valleys. One tornado, rated an F4, crossed the Ohio River twice on its 22 mile long path over Kentucky and Indiana.

In 1999, 20 inches of snow fell in Fairplay, Colorado. 9 inches were recorded in Denver, Colorado. Reduced visibilities caused an 83-car pileup on Interstate 70 west of Denver, Colorado.
