In 1927, a tornado ripped through Alexandria, Virginia and Washington DC, injuring 31 people. A nearby Naval Air Station recorded a wind gust of 93 miles-per-hour.
In 1987, a blizzard struck the Rocky Mountains, dumping 21 inches of snow at Monarch Ski Resort in Colorado.
In 1989, after a major severe weather outbreak two days before, the Southeast and southern Mississippi Valley saw record-breaking cold temperatures. Gilbert, Arkansas dropped to 8 degrees.
