VALENCIA, Spain (AP) -- A Nobel-winning U.N. science panel is
warning of inevitable human suffering and the threat of species
extinction as the Earth hurtles toward a warmer age at a quickening
pace.
A landmark report issued today at a climate change conference in
Spain offers blueprints for averting the worst catastrophes. U.N.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (bahn kee-moon) says climate change
imperils "the most precious treasures of our planet." Ban says
the potential impact of global warming is "so severe and so
sweeping that only urgent, global action will do."
The U.N's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was awarded
the Nobel Peace Prize this year along with former Vice President Al
Gore for efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of climate
change.
