A Sampson County man is accused of biting another man's ear off Sunday night.

David Turner is in the Carteret County jail on a $25,000 bond. He's charged with felony maiming of the ear. He told dispatchers that he bit off his friend's ear "Mike Tyson style".

The victim. Laurie Fulcher, will have to undergo reconstructive ear surgery.

Deputies say the 25-year-old Turner and Fulcher were working together on a shrimp boat that was docked at Radio Island.

The 63-year-old victim told deputies he allowed Turner to stay on the boat, and the two men got into an argument. Deputies say Turner ended up biting off the man's lower portion of his ear.

On the 911 tape, Turner can be heard admitting to authorities that he bit his roommate's ear off, but that he suffers from post traumatic stress disorder, is bi-polar and hasn't had his medicine in six months.

Turner: Me and my roommate got into a fight and I got PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder

911: Uh huh...

Turner: And I got bipolar disorder.

911: Uh huh.

Turner: And I ain't been on my medication for six months.

911: Right.

Turner: And me and my roommate got into and I (unintelligible).

911: You bit his ear off?

Turner: Yeah, Mike Tyson style.
