The Duck Woods Ladies Tennis Association Presents First “Swinging into Spring” Ladies Doubles Open Tennis Tournament

Calling all lady tennis players! Now is the time to sign up for the first “Swinging in Spring” Ladies Doubles Open Tennis Tournament, to be held Friday-Sunday, May 17-19. The event is being presented for the first time by the Duck Woods Ladies Tennis Association “Any female tennis player is welcome!,” said Janet Colegrove, secretary of the Duck Woods Ladies Tennis Association. “This year we are limiting it to 24 teams, with registration deadline Saturday, May 4.”

The tournament will consist of women’s doubles with all entrants playing at least two matches. Matches will be best of three sets with third set tiebreaker. Awards will be presented winners and each entrant will receive a tournament memento.

To register, call Jim Laughlin, director of tennis at Duck Woods Country Club, 252-261-6438. Be prepared with your name, partner’s name, NTPR rankings and phone numbers of both players. Participants will be guests of the Ladies Tennis Association. For details about the event, contact Jim Laughlin.

In the event of rain, matches will be held at Pine Island Racquet & Fitness Club with an adjusted format.

The Duck Woods Ladies Tennis Association offers an array of social and tennis events, quarterly meetings and provides scholarships for area high school seniors that meet specific criteria. Plus, it will join with Duck Woods Ladies Golf Association this year to benefit Get Pink, a local breast cancer organization, to help a needy local person.

Duck Woods Country Club is the only semi-private full service country club on the Outer Banks with a CMAA, CCM General Manager/COO as well as a PGA Golf Professional and a USPTA Director of Tennis. The meticulously manicured 18-hole golf course, designed by Ellis Maples, opened for play June 8, 1969. It has been rated one of the Best Places to Play by Golf Digest Magazine and was named an official PGA Family Golf Course by the PGA of America and U.S. Kids Golf.
