Holidays Will Sparkle in Downtown MHC
A full range of holiday plans are already in full gear for downtown Morehead City complete with a gallery ArtWalk, tree lighting, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a synthetic ice rink, and Art, Chowder and Cheer Crawl, lighted flotilla and Christmas Parade.
Art lovers can kick off their holiday celebration on Friday, December 6th, from 4 pm to 7 pm with the 4th annual Christmas ArtWalk presented by seven Downtown Morehead City galleries. Carteret Contemporary Art, Gallery Arendell, BluSail Gallery, Carolina Artist Gallery, Arts & Things, 36North and Art Studio 500, all located on Evans and Arendell Street, are leading this year’s event. Event co-chair, Sheila Brodnick of Carolina Artist Gallery remarked “last year’s ArtWalk was attended by over 300 enthusiastic participants and I know that this year will be even bigger”.
There will be a drawing for a $100 gift certificate, good at any participating gallery. Walkers can enter the drawing at each gallery. Lynn Golitz of BluSail Gallery and event chairman, commented that “downtown Morehead City is becoming a vibrant art district and cultural destination”.
Each gallery will offer special demonstrations, promotions, and refreshments. The ArtWalk map of the Arendell and Evans Streets locations can be picked up at any of the participating galleries. After completing the gallery tour, walkers are encouraged to stay in the emerging art district. Participating downtown shops, restaurants, and bakeries will be open from 7 to 9 pm with special offers and discounts.
This event is sponsored by the Downtown Morehead City Revitalization Association (DMCRA), Beaufort Ace Home Center, Arts Council of Carteret County, Harborview Rehabilitation, Jame’s Clothing, Master Clean, North Carolina Seafood Festival and Sound Bank. For more information about the ArtWalk, call Lynn Golitz at 252-723-9516 or visit the website: www.artwalkdowntownmoreheadcity.weebly.com

Also on Saturday, December 7th, the Art, Chowder and Cheer Crawl takes place with over 18 different restaurants participating from 1pm until 5pm. Vote for your favorite chowder, soup, chili or gumbo. There will be live demonstrations by artists, in conjunction with the Arts Council of Carteret County, staged at participating restaurants. And restaurants that aren’t located right in the downtown district will be serving samples at participating art galleries. Tickets are $20 per person and will be available in advance by calling the DMCRA at 252-808-0440 and at the establishments participating the day of the event.
