Annual Born Learning Children's Festival 2014

We are a 501(c)(3) Partnership for Children which provides or connects families with early care and education, health, and family support services needed for young children. We host an Annual Born Learning Festival that is a free family festival held in Herman Park, Goldsboro N.C. This festival is for children age birth through five and their families. The festival is funded in part by the local United Way and by Smart Start. The festival, food, activities and prizes are free of charge for all who attend.

Port Discover’s Afterschool Science on February 27th
Elizabeth City, NC — Fast forward through the rock cycle at Port Discover! Students learn how rocks are formed by creating their own sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous “rocks.” “Geology Rocks” Port Discover’s Afterschool Science on Thursday, February 27th, at 4:00 pm.
Afterschool Science is Port Discover’s free, interactive science program featuring a different and timely topic each month. Afterschool Science is made possible thanks to the City of Elizabeth City.
Port Discover is located at 611 East Main Street in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. The science center’s hours are Tuesday through Friday from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm, and Saturday from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Programs can be arranged at other times for special groups.
A hands-on science museum for the kid in all of us, Port Discover is a community-based, non-profit organization, established to enhance the public’s understanding and enjoyment of science through engaging programs, activities, and exhibits. Elizabeth City State University along with the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce initiated the project that has attracted broad community support, including Elizabeth City Morning Rotary, College of the Albemarle, Albemarle Hospital, Museum of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools. Port Discover is also a member of ASTC and the NC Grassroots Science Museum Collaborative.

Greene Lamp Head Start is now accepting Pre-Kindergarten applications for the 2014-2015 school year for children in Lenoir and Greene Counties. The child must be three or four years of age by August 31, 2014. Transportation is available to children enrolled in the program based on need and availability.
Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm.
To complete the application, the following items are required:
-Proof of child’s birth (i.e. Birth Certificate)
-Proof of Income for 2013 (i.e. tax return, W-2 form, TANF, SSI, child Support).

A Time For Science Nature and Science Learning Center - March Events

A Time for Science Nature and Science Learning Center (ATFS) is located off Highway 11 between Ayden and Grifton in Contentnea Creek Estates. The physical address is 949 Contentnea Lane, Grifton NC 28530.
Follow the website and newsletter regularly for possible additions or other updates to this schedule. For weather dependent activities (such as star parties, etc.), check the website for possible cancellations before leaving home.

Love A Sea Turtle Annual 5k Run & Nature Walk
Proceeds fund summer camps at A Time For Science Nature and Science Learning Center for underserved youth as well as turtle awareness and education. $20.00 for individual runners ($25.00 after Feb 1) and $5.00 for the Nature Walk. Following the big Turtle Run in the morning the astronomy Club will hold its annual Spring Equinox Star Party at 7:00 pm. Come a little early to watch the sun go down in the west, one of only two time during the year it sets in the west. The indoor program will be announced on the A Time For Science website. Dare Day Festival

Downtown Waterfront, Manteo, NC
In its 39th year, Dare Day Festival is a free, fun-filled family event, presented by the County of Dare and the Town of Manteo. Dare Day is considered by locals as the official kick-off of summer. Over 100 vendors will open booths on the Manteo Waterfront and surrounding downtown areas to display a variety of beautiful items, delicious foods and drinks. Children will be able to ride a kiddie train, play games and enjoy an inflatable slide and moonwalk.
There will be plenty of local musical entertainment on two stages for the enjoyment of all ages.
The smell of seafood, polish sausages, hotdogs/ hamburgers, funnel cakes and kettle corn will fill the air. There will be homemade and soft serve ice cream as well as a variety of cold drinks to quench your thirst.
Come to the Dare Day Festival and make some memories.
