Announces 2013-2014 Season

The board of directors of the Outer Banks Forum is pleased to announce its 2013-14 performing arts series. Season ticket orders are now being accepted from new subscribers. All seats are reserved with season tickets priced at $110 for seven performances. All programs will be held at the First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills.

“The upcoming performances feature an array of top notch performers, from the premiere dance organization, to a modern day Renaissance Man known for his unique voice and irresistible appeal, to ‘the world’s best’ award-winning male vocal ensemble, to a trio of acclaimed musicians ‘destined for great things,’ to a sizzling jazz trio of stellar musicians, to a world-class fiddler and violinist to classical music,” said Cooke. “In addition, we are excited to offer, for the first time, a classic holiday favorite, It’s A Wonderful Life. “So, to make sure you see all of these stunning performances, sign up now!”

The regular Outer Banks Forum performing arts series will focus on an array of outstanding musical and comedy programs including:
· The Richmond Ballet–- Sat., Sept. 7, 2013, 7:00 p.m.
Experience a high powered evening with the acclaimed Richmond Ballet, composed of dancers from around the world. Its performance repertoire includes works of enduring value – the classic ballets of the past, significant works of our time, and new works that reflect a variety of modern influences. Critics hail it “a jewel among U.S. dance companies … highly recommended.”
· Ronan Tynan–- Sat., Oct. 5, 2013, 7:30 p.m.
Come be captivated by Rona Tynan, a modern day Renaissance Man, known for his unique voice and irresistible appeal. Introduced to inter-national audiences as one of the Irish Tenors, he is a man of incredible accomplishments - from classical singer to opera star to recording star to top motivational speaker to author - having performed for dignitaries worldwide. Bask in the beauty of his music and roll with laugher at his humor.

· Chanticleer - Sat., Nov. 2, 2013, 7:30 p.m.
Relish the incredible sounds of the multiple Grammy Award-winning all-male vocal ensemble comprised of 12 singers hailing from across the U.S. Their repertoire spans 10 centuries from Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony and Romantic art song to contemporary music, jazz, spirituals and world music. Performing around the world, critics say: “They are, to put it directly, one of the world’s best.”
· Horszowski Trio - Sat., Jan. 25, 2014, 7:30 p.m.
Be mesmerized by this trio, hailed by the The New Yorker as “destined for great things.” Formed in 2011, it is composed of Jesse Mills, two-time Grammy-nominated violinist, Raman Ramakrishnan, founding cellist of the prize-winning Daedalus Quartet, and pianist Rieko Aizawa, last pupil of legendary pianist, Mieczysław Horszowski. The Trio presents repertoire spanning the traditional and the contemporary.
· John Brown Trio - Sat., February 22, 2014, 7:30 p.m.
Savor the sizzling sounds of the John Brown Trio as they provide an unforgettable evening of jazz. With Brown on bass, Cyrus Chestnut on piano and Adonis Rose on drums and percussion, this stellar group of super-musicians will play a wide range of jazz. “This is the true definition of a powerful trio.” – JazzTimes
· Jeremy Kittel- Sat., March 22, 2014, 7:30 p.m.
Delight in an evening with Jeremy Kittel, one of the foremost among a new breed of fiddlers and violinists who easily navigate a multitude of musical styles and traditions, while cultivating new ground and redefining the instrument’s role. He recently performed as a world-class jazz improviser in the Grammy-winning Turtle Island Quartet and taught internationally as one of the world’s leading Scots-Irish fiddlers.
· The Virginia Symphony - Thurs., May 22, 2014, 7:30 p.m.
Listen to the spectacular music of The Virginia Symphony, conducted by a nationally acclaimed conductor. Recognized as one of the nation’s leading regional symphony orchestras, this exceptional program will highlight classical music.
The Forum will also offer a special Christmas show:
· It’s A Wonderful Life - Sun., Dec. 8, 2013, 2:30 p.m.
Almost everyone knows the story of the classic holiday favorite It’s A Wonderful Life. Experience the nostalgia of the days before TV when skilled actors created the images in the minds of the listeners. This 1940’s “live broadcast” of Frank Capra’s beloved film takes us back to the Golden Age of Radio. The WVL studio’s “On Air” sign lights up and the heartwarming holiday treasure comes to life through the bygone radio formula of a few hardworking actors, live sound effects – and a listener’s imagination.
Renewing subscribers can receive their current seats for the 2013-2014 season until June 1. New subscribers are invited to apply for tickets, and seats will be assigned in the order of receipt of the tickets request. Season tickets for seven shows are $110 a person and a ticket for the holiday show is $15 a person available to the general public.
The Outer Banks Forum for the Performing Arts is a non-profit organization that brings an annual series of seven outstanding diverse concerts to the area and provides opportunities for youth to participate in the arts. All of the performances are partially underwritten by community businesses. ##
