Dare County Arts Preps for Second Annual Rock the Cape Festival

Date(s): 5/30/2014

4-10pm

at Koru Village’s Beach Klub in Avon

Dare County Arts Preps for Second Annual Rock the Cape Festival

On Friday, May 30 the Dare County Arts Council will host the second annual Rock the Cape festival from 4-10pm at Koru Village’s Beach Klub in Avon.

Rock the Cape is a festival to benefit the Dare County Arts Council. The fundraiser will celebrate life on the water’s edge and will feature local music, artists, a raffle, food, drinks, a kids’ zone, and live art.

"As artists, we are excited to participate in the second annual Rock the Cape. With the success of last year, we anticipate great things,” said Joe and Kris Caroppoli from Caroppoli Fine Art & Photography.

North Carolina surf rock legends Southern Culture on the Skids will return for their second show on Cape Hatteras to headline Rock the Cape.

“Hey Outer Banks we (SCOTS) can't wait to get back to Koru’s Beach Klub for the Dare County Arts Council Fundraiser. It's gonna be rockin' grooves for surfing feet with the deepest reverb on the beach. All for a cause that can't be beat! Good times guaranteed,” said Rick Miller from Southern Culture on the Skids.

Tickets for the event are $12 in advance and $18 at the door. Tickets are available now online at brownpapertickets.com and will be available soon at select locations.

Outer Banks band Eddy and the Rip Tides, Virginia’s Cashmere Jungle Lords, and students from the Dare County Arts Council’s Community School program will be playing throughout the day.

“Cashmere Jungle Lords is pleased to participate in Rock the Cape. It's an excellent opportunity for us to give something back to a community that has given so much to us. We feel blessed to be able to support the Dare Country Arts Council's mission and perform again with our old friends, Southern Culture on the Skids,” said lead singer, guitarist, and chief songwriter of Cashmere Jungle Lords Dominic Carpin.
This project is sponsored by the Outer Banks Visitor’s Bureau.

Yesterday and Today: The Interactive Beatles Experience

Date(s): 3/7/2014

7:30pm (Arrive Early)

Paramount Theatre in Goldsboro
Paramount Performing Arts Series

Friday, March 7th, 2014 - 7:30pm (Arrive Early)

What's your favorite Beatles song? When asked this question, people don't just tell you the name of the song. They tell you a story associated with that song – about a first love, a first kiss or a touching story about a parent or the loss of a loved one. Simply put, The Beatles music is the soundtrack to our lives. Yesterday and Today gets to the heart of that. This show takes the incredible music of The Beatles and personalizes it with the stories and perspectives of audience members. The show becomes a therapeutic musical session with laughter and tears and personal stories that connect the audience, band and performers in a way that no other show can.

The performance consists of 2 1/2 to 3 hours of music, depending on the veracity of audience interaction. The set list contains songs chosen by audience members prior to the show and again at intermission. Audience members' stories will be told throughout an evening that captures the importance of The Beatles music and how it touches all of us individually. Yesterday and Today is a unique Beatles tribute show. The Yesterday and Today cast does not dress as The Beatles, nor attempt to execute "Liverpudlian" accents. The concentration is on presenting the music in a personal, giving, exciting, and well-executed manner.

As audience members come into the theatre, they are invited to go to the Song Request table. To make requests, people fill out a card giving their names, the songs they are requesting and the reason they have chosen those songs. The band then organizes the requests into that night's set list. The show is then led by interacting with the audience members, drawing out more of the stories with the songs, driving the show's narrative. An incredibly electric atmosphere is created where audience members feel as important to the show as the band. It is important to emphasize that because every Yesterday and Today performance is driven by its unique audience; each performance is different, making this a show that has a long shelf-life in theaters.

"Foot-stomping, clapping in unison, singing along and outright screaming from the audience, especially during the all-out panic that erupted when a little ditty named "Revolution" was played!" -- David Williams, Omaha City Weekly

Tickets: $22/Adults, $20/Students/Seniors 65+/Military
Tickets for this and many more upcoming events are available at the Paramount Theatre Box Office located at 139 South Center Street in Downtown Goldsboro, NC, online at www.GoldsboroParamount.com or over the phone by calling (919) 583-8432.
