Chip Gentry is a master falconer with 17 years of experience working with and training birds of prey. Come see and become educated about the sport of falconry and the wonderful raptors utilized. Learn about the different species of raptors that are indigenous to our area and a few that are not. Have the opportunity to see flight demonstrations with hawks and owls. This is a great chance to see these magnificent animals up close and personal!!

Harlem Ambassadors Tour

Hoops and hijinks are coming to Washington when our very own local challengers, the First Responders Dream Team, take on the Harlem Ambassadors in a comedy basketball show the whole family will enjoy.
The Harlem Ambassadors offer a unique brand of Harlem-style basketball, featuring high-flying slam dunks, dazzling ball-handling tricks, hilarious comedy routines, music, dancing and games for the kids!
Tickets are on sale at First Bank, the Chamber of Commerce, and Frank's Pizza. Advance purchase of adult tickets are $5.00. Price at the door is $6.00.
Proceeds benefit the Beaufort County Police Activities League (BC PAL) and the Rotary Club and will be used to fund Beaufort County community projects and First Responder Programs.

The Pen and Paper Lounge presents Author/Artist Dawn Deanna Wilson to Winterville on April 5, 2014 to facilitate Creating Memorable Characters, a hands-on workshop for beginner to intermediate writers (even the secret ones.) Bring a notebook, pen and prepare to create unforgettable characters.
A book signing and readings will immediately follow the workshop Packets of materials will be provided for each participant to use during and after the workshop. Donations accepted to offset printing of packets and other participants' costs, but, all are welcome. Please reserve your seat due to limited seating.

Love A Sea Turtle Annual 5k Run & Nature Walk
Proceeds fund summer camps at A Time For Science Nature and Science Learning Center for underserved youth as well as turtle awareness and education. $20.00 for individual runners ($25.00 after Feb 1) and $5.00 for the Nature Walk. Following the big Turtle Run in the morning the astronomy Club will hold its annual Spring Equinox Star Party at 7:00 pm. Come a little early to watch the sun go down in the west, one of only two time during the year it sets in the west. The indoor program will be announced on the A Time For Science website. The Lenoir County Historical Association is sponsoring the 3rd Annual “Birds in Harmony” birdhouse show, sale and exposition. This will be at Harmony Hall which is located at 109 E. King St., Kinston, NC, across from the Lenoir County Courthouse. The dates are 3/25-4/6.
This will end with the Southern Brunch on Sunday 4/6. This brunch will be from 11:30AM to 2:00PM. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children. Tickets for the brunch can be obtained by calling Harmony Hall Site Manager, Judy White at 252 522-0421.

Onslow County Public Library hosts Dangerous Marine Life with Executive Vice President of the nonprofit NC Aquarium Society Mark Joyner
Swansboro Recreation Center
(Onslow County) – Onslow County Public Library and the Swansboro Friends of the Library will host Executive Vice President Mark Joyner of the nonprofit NC Aquarium Society at the Swansboro Recreation Center on Thursday, March 6 at 6:30 pm for a fun and interactive evening learning about what might be swimming below you in our North Carolina waters.
Bring the whole family to learn about sharks, stingrays, venomous and toxic fishes, stinging jellyfish & electric rays! Learn the natural history of these animals & how to avoid encounters or treat the aftermath.
Mr. Joyner has worked with the North Carolina Aquariums for over thirty years and currently serves as Executive Vice President of the nonprofit NC Aquarium Society. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and a Master’s degree in Education from NC State University. He is a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine and author of over a dozen natural history articles that have been featured in Wildlife in North Carolina magazine.
