The Swansboro Friends of the Library and Onslow County Public Library hosts Starting Your Own Veggie Garden featuring Master Gardener Marsha Horner
(Onslow County) The Swansboro Friends of the Library and Onslow County Public Library will host Starting Your Own Veggie Garden featuring Master Gardener Marsha Horner. This event will be held Saturday, April 5th from 10:00 am until 12 noon at the Swansboro Branch Library and is free and open to the public.
Horner will discuss specific planting of some common garden vegetables, planting mediums, types of seeds, needs for growth, light, nourishment, ventilation, common mistakes, and special tips for success. Make your own “mini greenhouse” to take home and nourish!
Marsha Horner has been a Master Gardener for over 30 years. She has independently studied greenhouse management and the maintenance of vegetable and flower plants. She has experience in seed starting and growing of vegetables, flowers, fruit crops, berries and root crops, maintaining heirloom seed, harvesting of seed varieties, and propagation. She has completed plant trials using micronutrients, mixtures, and dilution of natural additives in organic gardening, and benefits accomplished. She has also taught the care of succulents and how to blend other plants to make living art forms for over 10 years.

Onslow County Public Library is hosting Proposal Writing Basics at the Main Library Branch in Jacksonville March 4 at 1 pm.
Are you new to proposal writing? This class will cover how the proposal fits into the overall grantseeking process. Learn what to include in a standard proposal to a foundation, tips for creating a standard proposal, and what funders expect to see in your proposal. We will discuss how to best communicate with funders during the grant process and we will take a look at sample proposals that earned grant funding.
Onslow County Public Library is a Foundation Center Funding Information Network member. We offer print and digital resources for nonprofits as well as quarterly classes.
Nonprofits are invited to join us Tuesday, March 4 at 1pm. Registration is required.

Beginner's Guide to Fishing the Tar-Pam

Join the Pamlico-Tar River Foundation (PTRF) and Tarboro Association of Saltwater Sportsmen (TASS) for the first edition of our fishing clinic series, Beginner’s Guide to Fishing the Tar-Pam! Local experienced fishermen from TASS and the Pamlico River-area will teach you basic information on terminology, different types of tackle and bait, fishing strategies, and knot tying. This clinic will focus on the most popular freshwater and brackish water species. *A portion of all proceeds will go towards TASS.* The clinic is $40 for non-PTRF members, including a 1 year membership and $10 for PTRF members.

Onslow County Public Library hosts Dangerous Marine Life with Executive Vice President of the nonprofit NC Aquarium Society Mark Joyner
Swansboro Recreation Center
(Onslow County) – Onslow County Public Library and the Swansboro Friends of the Library will host Executive Vice President Mark Joyner of the nonprofit NC Aquarium Society at the Swansboro Recreation Center on Thursday, March 6 at 6:30 pm for a fun and interactive evening learning about what might be swimming below you in our North Carolina waters.
Bring the whole family to learn about sharks, stingrays, venomous and toxic fishes, stinging jellyfish & electric rays! Learn the natural history of these animals & how to avoid encounters or treat the aftermath.
Mr. Joyner has worked with the North Carolina Aquariums for over thirty years and currently serves as Executive Vice President of the nonprofit NC Aquarium Society. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and a Master’s degree in Education from NC State University. He is a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine and author of over a dozen natural history articles that have been featured in Wildlife in North Carolina magazine.
