WITN made the digital transition during WITN News at Noon Friday, June 12, 2009. The station is working with the Federal Communications Commission to provide an analog "Nightlight" service for two weeks.
Following a request from the Federal Communications Commission, WITN has agreed to provide the Greenville-New Bern-Washington television market with analog ‘Nightlight” service.
WITN-TV will terminate regular analog television service at 12:30pm on Friday, June 12th. However, WITN will continue to broadcast analog “Nightlight” service over WITN’s analog channel for an additional two weeks following this termination of regular service.
Analog “Nightlight” service will consist of informational programming, in both English and Spanish, explaining the transition to digital service with information on how to obtain assistance for viewers still unable to receive digital television signals. In addition, WITN will broadcast local emergency information if necessary.
The FCC expressed concerns that this service be available in eastern North Carolina prompting this special request to WITN. WITN will be the only station offering analog “Nightlight” service in eastern North Carolina.
“WITN has been very active in assisting the FCC in providing information about the digital television transition to the viewers in eastern North Carolina. We are happy to provide this additional assistance and service to our viewers”, Chris Mossman, WITN General Manager said.
WITN’s “Nightlight” service is exclusively sponsored by Suddenlink. Suddenlink serves customers in eastern North Carolina with television, high-speed internet and home telephone service.
