BIOGRAPHY:
Matt came to the WITN weather team from the heart of storm chasing country in Midland, TX. After two years chasing tornadoes as the morning meteorologist, he felt it was time to chase something bigger…hurricanes. Born on the soft-side of Detroit (Journey anyone?) Matt has always been searching for the perfect way to combine his love for the weather and a need to communicate. Interning under Richard Luterman at WJBK in Detroit and learning the television basics from his high school TWP teacher Roger Smith, Matt has established a strong foundation for a career in television
As a student of Valparaiso University in northern Indiana, Matt received his bachelor's degree in both meteorology and television/radio. If not deriving the Omega equation, he frequently storm chased for the Valparaiso University Strom Intercept team (VUSIT) or DJ'ed for the college radio station, WVUR.
From wine in Paris, deadly heights at the Cliffs of Moher, to cruising the Greek Islands, he has learned the importance of experiencing different places and cultures. Additionally, Matt is looking forward to living in Eastern Carolina and getting to know those who make up its community. If not watching Vipir, Matt is either enjoying Notre Dame Football or any of the Detroit sports teams. Musically, he has been in one band, the DCE, and hopes to one day reunite with the bass guitar at hand.
