The Rose Rampants baseball team is starting to hit stride after a sluggish start, part of the reason for their success has been the steady play of shortstop Tommy Houmard, but this week's player of the week is planning on making his mark off the field.
Tommy Houmard isn't the flashiest of ball players. He's a good hitter, batting .360 on the season. He's got a good glove and anchors the Rampant defense at shortstop. Where he really stands out is in the classroom where he sports a 4.3 grade point average taking the toughest classes, you have to if your ambition is to become a biology teacher.
Don't get Tommy wrong, he's not a bookworm, he's a ballplayer who knows what he wants in life. He recently signed a letter of intent to play baseball at UNC Asheville where he'll major in biology and with the help of a teaching fellows scholarship.
Teaching became Tommy's ambition after he coached some kids at a youth soccer camp a few years back. He knew right away that it was his calling.
