Player Of The Week: Jonathan Williams

ECU senior running back Jonathan Williams is an exceptionally gifted and physical athlete who appears to be thriving under the leadership of new head coach Ruffin McNeill.

Renewed optimism and bright outlook for a high-impact senior campaign will follow distractive sophomore and junior seasons which limited production and significant playing time.

Brian Meador shines the spotlight on WITN's player of the week.

I'm one of the people pulling for Jonathan and hoping that this year is much better than the past couple of years for him. It was disappointing seeing someone with so much promise and potential having so many problems. I agree with something I heard Coach Ruff say in an interview on Pirate Radio: when you see Jonathan, tell him "good job". He's starting on a clean slate and if he keeps it up, he needs to be encouraged. I look forward to seeing him play this season and I hope that everything turns out the way he wants it to.

  • by Patrila on Aug 21, 2010 at 09:55 AM what can I say! It just amazes me how people are acting like your greatness is something new. You've been AMAZING...with every achievement & every lesson learned. Just wanted to you to know that your FRIENDS and FAMILY will always be there to support you. It takes a MAN to be able to go through what you went through and still keep the faith through the mist of it all. And for those who speak negatively about you could never take a step let alone walk a mile in your shoes. Your testimony has helped shape lives & you've made YOUR community very proud. I just thank GOD for allowing me to be a witness. Keep it up & Stay focused! GOD Bless

Jonathan has overcome trials which speaks volumes about his character;not the fact that he had to endure but the fact that he overcame & is remaining positive. Some counted him out years ago yet he’s still standing & stronger than ever. It’s sad when someone is reduced to using derogatory terms in attempt to describe another (ie thug). That makes it evident that there is a certain level of stereotyping within that person. It's a critic’s job to do something that they themselves can’t do. You can’t express hatred for anything/anybody, unless you make use of the supply of hatred within yourself. The negative comments are just a reflection/mirror image of what they have inside of themselves. It’s evident that those individuals don’t know Jonathon personally.Transformations don’t occur overnight & I’m sure if many of our actions were documented & exposed, we might not look so wonderful either! Jonathan you have already succeeded [Keep Pushing]!! WITN, THANK YOU for your unbiased recognition!

Jon I'm glad to see you are getting on the right track. I agree with Sam on staying around with the football teammates. They are true friends. Prove the critics wrong not just this year for for the rest of the years to come. Also I'd like to see you be attracting all these NFL scouts with the great potential you have. You have a lot going for you. 4 things I would also like to see more than anything else this season is #1 3-peat the conference championship #2 Win the Liberty Bowl #3 Beat Chapel Hole Tar Holes and #4 Beat MooU Wolfpuppies. Sincerely Darren CO 2000 GO PIRATES

When did WITN say the player of the week was an award? I thought it was somebody who stands out in the world of sports. This guy certainly stands out. I find it sad that there are "haters" out there who would wish this young man to fail so they could say "told you so".
