The basketball coach and athletic director at Kinston HIgh School is resigning.
Wells Gulledge will be done at the end of the school year and he says he is taking a job at a private company in Greenville. Gulledge told WITN sports Director Billy Weaver via phone that "I need to spend more time with my kids." Gulledge has two young children ages one and three years old.
Gulledge also said it was very tough telling his players but he feels he is making the right decision for his family. He didn't rule out returning to coaching at some point in the future saying "I won't say I won't ever get back in it."
Gulledge spent 11 years as head coach at Kinston High School leading the Vikings to three State Championships and one state runner-up finish.
Kinston assistant coach Perry Tyndall has been named interim head coach.
