Creswell junior basketball player Danvonta Phelps is not only the lead of his team, he's one of the state's leading scorers and WITN's Player Of The Week.
Just step through the doorway of the small gymnasium at creswell high school and it's very easy to figure out who's top Tiger. Not just because he wears number one on his jersey or because at 6'3" and a very lean 190 pounds he physically the most athletic looking player on the court. But because the numbers simply don't lie.
Donvanta Phelps is one of the state's most prolific scorers averaging 22.2 points a game, that's in the top 20 in the state. Phelps also averages 11.6 rebounds, 16th best in North Carolina.
Danvonta Phelps is also a standout high school football player. As a quarterback last season he led the Tigers to a 10-3 record and a birth in the second round of the state playoffs.
Along with the countless hours on the field and on the court Phelps still finds time to do well in the classroom, work on the yearbook staff and devote time to his community.
