1A State Championship Preview: Jones vs. Murphy

The Jones Senior Trojans (10-4) will take on the Murphy Bulldogs (11-4) tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh.

Jones Senior is one of six teams making its first trip to the state finals. The Trojans are led by second year head coach John Davis who is also making his first state championship appearance.

Murphy is a perennial powerhouse in 1A high school football. The Bulldogs are making its eighth state title game appearance despite starting the year 0-3. The Bulldogs have won five state championships.

Murphy is in the state finals for a second consecutive year. The Bulldogs lost to Wallace-Rose Hill last year 22-21.

Jones Senior was 3-9 last season falling in the first round of the playoffs.

WITN will air highlights of the game along with post game interviews tonight on WITN news at 11 o'clock.

    It sure would be nice to be able to have these state final games televised live. I lived in another state where this was always the case, year after year. After all these schools have worked long and hard to get to this point, why not celebrate and have the entire state see their efforts in the state finals

    Less weather in a 30 min. segmant and let the sports guy have some time to report w/o flying thru the games and scores. Weather is changing that much in 30 min.
