RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Durham Hillside quarterback Vad Lee has been named The Associated Press prep football player of the year for North Carolina in 2010.
Lee was the runaway winner, earning 11 of 15 votes from sports writers across the state in results released Friday. Charlotte Mallard Creek quarterback Marquise Williams was second with three votes after piling up 4,500 total yards and 65 total touchdowns.
Lee threw for more than 3,200 yards and ran for another 1,300 as Hillside capped an unbeaten season with its first North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship.
Lee was named most valuable player of the Class 4-A final after throwing for 264 yards and three touchdowns in the shutout win against Davie County.
