High school football athletes were playing for more than just a win Saturday.

The players involved in the 7 on 7 Passing Tournament at South Central High School were lacing them up in honor of former ECU football player Spencer Hampton, who lost his battle with cancer earlier this summer.

Proceeds from the tournament are going toward a scholarship fund in Hampton's memory. A scholarship will be awarded later this year to the player who most embodies Spencer's character.

If you'd like to make a donation to the scholarship fund, send a check to:

Aldridge and Southerland

Checks made payable to Pitt County Educational Fund, attn: Spencer Hampton Fund.
