Kellum Once Again Leading Southside Football

The announcement was made Monday morning that veteran football coach Dewayne Kellum has returned to lead the Southside High School football program.

“We are excited about his returning to Southside High School, where he has enjoyed previous success both in the classroom and on the football field,” Principal Rick Anderson explained.

Kellum is excited to go back “home” and ready to get to work. “I am real excited, I can’t wait to go back and finish where we started at the place I have been most of my working career.”

With the exception of one year away, Kellum has worked in Beaufort County Schools since 1982 at both Chocowinity High School and Southside High School.

According to Kellum, “My main concern right now is to get a staff together and start working. I hear we have a lot of talented kids and I look forward to meeting them and doing what I need to for them to excel.”

I'm so glad he's back. This is just what Southside needed! He's a top notch coach and knows what he's doing. Can't wait to see the games this year! GO HAWKS!!

The kid that was quarterback last year did great. He was not the problem. The Hawks are expected to be much improved this year. My thought is that we really need to get behind the boys and fill the stands. Win or lose wether you are Chocowinity or Aurora you are still a SEAHAWK (GO HAWKS)..

Now if he can just find another Zack Squires to QB the team, all will be well. I know Coach K is glad to be home.

How likely is it that Northside will ever beat its own record?

Too bad we're not talking about Northside! But I can say, too bad you won't have the longest run in State Championship History from Bryan Haywood(1st best all-time in the state). Go SHS!! Good luck to NHS, too!
