Southside's David Hines Headed West

Chocowinity -- After three years as head football coach at Southside High School, David Hines will join Craig Barker's staff at Cherokee High School.

Hines had been at the eastern North Carolina school since 2007 and will also be Cherokee's head baseball coach.

Hines won just one game over the first two years of his head coaching tenure at Southside but led the Seahawks to a 4-8 record last season. The Seahawks are expected to be a much improved team in 2010.

The Cherokee Braves open their football season Aug. 20 at home against Smoky Mountain. They have not had a losing season since 2004 and won back-to-back Smoky Mountain Conference championships in 2006 and 2007.
