Croatan High School shortstop Ryan Cranmer simply assaults the baseball. His power at the plate, coupled with his above average speed on the bases is a big reason he is getting noticed by Division One college coaches and even pro scouts.
But last December, while playing basketball for his high school team, Cranmer suffered a serious, but very common injury. He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left leg and would have to undergo surgery if he wanted to be 100 percent for baseball season. But while trying to rehab from surgery, something went wrong, very wrong. Two blood clots were found near Ryan's lungs.
After a very big scare and a few months of carefully working out while still on blood thinners. Ryan was back on the baseball diamond with his teammates. As expected his first game back was touch and go but this past week during an Easter break tournament, Ryan collected five hits with two home runs, two doubles, six runs batted in and one stolen base. He even picked up a win on the pitchers mound. A feat certainly worthy of the honor of player of the week.
