McGuinness' Robinson: AP Top Women's Coach For NC

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Kernersville McGuinness' Brian Robinson has been named the 2009-10 Associated Press women's prep basketball coach of the year for North Carolina.

After leading McGuinness to its fifth straight state championship, Robinson earned seven of a possible 22 votes from sports writers across the state in results released Thursday. That was one vote better than Matthews Butler's Stephanie Butler, who led her team to the Class 4-A title.

Gastonia Forestview's Ken Beaty was third with four votes after leading his program to the 3-A crown.

Robinson's team had lost seven of its top nine players from last year and started 7-4 before regrouping and winning a fifth straight 1-A title with a young squad.
