Goldsboro Falls In 1A Title Game

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- Isaac Blakeney poured in 24 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to lead Monroe to a 62-46 win over Goldsboro in the Class 1-A North Carolina High School Athletic Association men's basketball championship Saturday.

It was the second state title for the Redhawks (32-1) in four appearances in the state final. Their previous championship came in 1980 at the 2-A level.

Jamison Crowder added 20 points and Quontez Threatt scored 10 for Monroe.

RaSean Brewington led all scorers with 27 points and 11 rebounds for Goldsboro (23-8). The Cougars are 1-3 in state finals, having won the 3-A championship in 1998.
