Police: Suspect Admits Killing Iowa Football Coach

ALLISON, Iowa (AP) -- An investigator says a former football player accused of murdering his high school coach described to him how he repeatedly shot Ed Thomas.

Division of Criminal Investigation agent Chris Callaway says Mark Becker believed Thomas was a "devil" who turned students into animals and "dead people."

Becker is on trial for first-degree murder. Prosecutors say he killed Thomas on June 24 in front of teenage students in the weight room at Aplington-Parkersburg High School. He has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

A recording of Callaway's hour-long interview with Becker less than two hours after the killing was played during the investigator's testimony Tuesday, the second day of the murder trial in a Butler County courtroom in Allison.
