Wallace-Rose Hill's Price Named HS Football Coach Of Year

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Wallace-Rose Hill's Joey Price has been named The Associated Press high school football coach of the year for North Carolina in 2009.

Price earned eight of 17 votes from sports writers across the state in results released Thursday. Price led the team to the state championship in his first season there. He inherited a program that had gone 2-10 the previous season, but the Bulldogs won their final 12 games of the season. The last victory was an overtime win against Mt. Airy in the Class 1-A final in which his team went for a two-point conversion after a touchdown for a 38-37 victory.

Matthews Butler's Mike Newsome was second with four votes after guiding the Bulldogs to an unbeaten season that included the 4-AA championship.
