Tarboro Wins 2-A State Football Title

Chapel Hill -- Tarboro used stellar defense to beat Mountain Heritage 28-3 in the class 2-A state championship game at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill.

The Cougars scored the first points of the game on a short field goal in the first quarter but Tarboro responded with four unanswered touchdowns.

Damarius Harper and Chris Lane scored first half touchdowns to give the Vikings a 14-3 lead at halftime. Lane was later named the games most valuable player.

It's been 25 years since Tarboro last won a football state championship when they beat A. L. Brown to win the 3-A Championship in 1984.

Last year at this time, we were ready 4 revenge and that is what we got! The 2009 Season began in early August, and the journey back 2 the ship also began. These F-Ball players worked their asses off the entire off-season, and this incredible journey was only beginning! Its a great feeling 2 be a true, down to the heart viking! All the schools i have went 2 have had the mascot of Vikings, so that truely, and officially makes me a Viking 4 life. All week long leading up 2 fridays game, everyone at THS was happy, excited, hype, and felt like this was a dream, but it wasnt, we didnt want 2 wake up if it really was a dream, but it turned out to be reality! To the seniors (C/O 2010), what a great 4 years u guys have had playing 4 THS and u guys represented THS very well! This has truely been the year of the VIKINGS!!!!! Go RudeBoyz!

I am so proud of Tarboro High and it's coaching staff. I remember when Coach Craddock first came to THS, you could see the drive in him that he'd turn our program around and that he did. We, the class of '99 can say that he helped take us to the playoffs, but we didn't come back with smiles. You the 2009 Vikings team all really worked hard and you deserve this win. Keep up the good work!!
