RALEIGH, NC -- The NC State football team will hold its first practice under new head coach Dave Doeren on Tuesday morning, as the Wolfpack opens 2013 spring drills.
The squad will have 15 opportunities to practice, concluding workouts with the Kay Yow Spring Football Game on April 20 at 1:30 p.m.
“I’m excited about it,” said Doeren, who was named head coach on Dec. 1. “You don’t really know what you have until you get out on the field. It’s going to be great to get out there again.”
Doeren and his staff have a great deal to implement in 15 practices, as a dozen starters from last season will not return in 2013. “Our main goal is to get our schemes installed and to get the kids to learn what their coaches’ expectations are. We need to find out what the strengths and weaknesses of our individual players are.”
Another key point of emphasis for the Pack, which returns only three seniors who were starters last season, will be to determine who the leaders of the team will be. “We want to see daily improvement and then we should see the leadership of this team unfold as we go through the installation process,” Doeren continued. “Developing chemistry will be very important, because although many of these guys have played together, they may have been in different roles.”
