UNC's AD Mulling Upgrades To Smith Center, Fetzer

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina won NCAA championships in women's lacrosse and women's soccer this season, and earned recognition as the nation's best women's athletic program. Now athletic director Bubba Cunningham is looking ahead to facility upgrades that could include changes to the home of the Tar Heels' men's basketball team.

Cunningham says he's considering upgrades to an aging Fetzer Field that's home to soccer, lacrosse and outdoor track programs. He says upgrading the Smith Center, home to men's basketball since 1986, could help generate money to pay for Fetzer improvements.

The Tar Heels are closing in another top-10 finish in the Director's Cup for the nation's top overall athletic program, with the baseball team still competing in the College World Series. It would be the 17th top-10 finish in 20 years.
