CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina says senior quarterback Bryn Renner had successful surgery on his left shoulder for an injury that will keep him out the rest of the season.
Renner had surgery Wednesday at UNC Hospitals to repair a detached labrum and broken bone suffered during last weekend's win at rival North Carolina State. The injury is to his non-throwing shoulder.
The fifth-year senior had started all but one game for the Tar Heels since the start of the 2011 season. He closed his career as the school's most accurate passer and ranked among the career leaders in touchdown passes, yards passing, completions and attempts.
Renner said Tuesday evening that he would be in a sling until mid-December, then would begin rehab work to prepare for NFL predraft workouts.
