Tyson named AAC Rookie of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. --- East Carolina freshman B.J. Tyson was named American Athletic Conference Rookie-of-the-Week on Monday. He earned his second rookie-of-the-week honor this season for his performance in Saturday's game against James Madison.

Tyson came off the bench and scored 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting to go with four rebounds, an assist and a steal in 25 minutes. It was his seventh consecutive double figure scoring performance.

Despite coming off the bench in all 10 games, Tyson leads the Pirates in scoring and is ranked third in the American Athletic Conference and ninth among all Division I freshmen this season with 15.5 points per game.

Junior Terry Whisnant and sophomore Caleb White were each named to this week's American Athletic Conference Honor Roll. Whisnant posted career highs of 24 points and seven rebounds, while White scored 16 points, all in the second half, in the 70-58 win over James Madison.

After final exams conclude on Thursday, East Carolina will play a pair of games before the Christmas break. The Pirates will travel to Wilmington on Saturday, Dec. 20, to take on the UNCW Seahawks at 7 p.m., then return home to face Florida A&M on Monday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m. inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
