Three Pirates Receive C-USA Softball Accolades

IRVING, Texas – East Carolina had three players earn All-Conference USA honors, according to an announcement from the league office on Wednesday afternoon. Junior first baseman Jordan Lewis and junior second baseman Kristi Oshiro were named to the All-C-USA Second Team, while Meredith Mitchell received C-USA All-Freshman Team honors.

Lewis, after a selection to the all-freshman team in her rookie campaign, picked up second-team honors for the first time in her career this season. The Fremont, Calif. native leads the squad in walks (27), stolen bases (12) and slugging percentage (.571). She is tied for the team lead in batting average (.331) and home runs (7). Lewis also ranks second in triples (3), RBI (28), total bases (76), on-base percentage (.442) and multi-RBI games (7). She put together a career-high 21-game on-base streak from March 16-April 20 in which she hit .385 and reached base at a .549 clip. Lewis is placed third in the league in slugging percentage, tied for fourth in walks, tied for sixth in triples, ninth in total bases and tied for 10th in home runs.
In only Conference USA games, Lewis stands tied for second in triples (2) and sacrifice flies (2), third in slugging percentage (.683), tied for fourth in home runs (5), tied for fifth in walks (16), tied for sixth in runs batted in (18), tied for seventh in total bases (35) and tied for eighth in runs scored (18).
During East Carolina's three-game series against Marshall, Lewis hit three home runs, knocked in six, scored seven runs and walked five times.

Oshiro was also selected to the second team for the first time in her career after earning a place on the all-freshman team in 2011. The Mililani, Hawai’i native is the team leader in numerous offensive categories including hits (47), triples (5), on-base percentage (.445), runs (39), sacrifice bunts (9) and multiple-hit games (13). She is tied for the team lead in batting average (.331), while placing second on the squad in doubles (12) and walks (25). Oshiro leads the league in triples and is tied for fifth in sacrifice bunts, sixth in doubles and runs scored. She is also tied for eighth in walks and tied for 10th in slugging percentage.
In only Conference USA games, Oshiro stands second in walks (19), tied for third in triples (1), tied for eighth in runs scored (17) and tied for ninth in sacrifice bunts (3).

During the team’s three-game series against UTEP, Oshiro had five hits, four runs scored, five RBI and was walked five times.

Mitchell, a Dunlap, Tenn. native, has anchored the lower half of ECU’s batting average this season and ranks fourth on the team with her .290 batting average. She has also contributed 31 hits, 19 runs, six stolen bases, three doubles and a triple. She has really stood out in league-only contests this season and led the squad with a .333 batting average and tied for the team lead with 20 hits. Her six stolen bases in C-USA contests tied her for eighth among all players.
Mitchell reached base in all three games against Marshall and combined to score six runs on six hits with three RBI and four stolen bases. Mitchell had a breakout individual game in the second contest against the Thundering Herd when she set career-highs in runs (3), hits (3), RBI (3) and stolen bases (2)
East Carolina (21-30, 11-12 C-USA) returns to action Thursday in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament. The Pirates enter as the fifth seed and play fourth-seeded Marshall (32-20, 13-10 C-USA) at 8 p.m. (ET) at the Collins Family Softball Complex in Tulsa, Okla.
