Riverside, Kinston, East Carteret Begin Title Preparations

Three local teams will play for state championships this Saturday in high school basketball.

The Riverside girls will look to knock off eight-time defending state champion Bishop McGuinness. The Knights finished the regular season ranked 1st in the state poll. The Villains ended the year 3rd.

Knights fans can purchase tickets for $9 at the high school office this week. Tickets will be $10 at the door.

The Kinston boys are making their third straight trip to the season's final game. They captured back-to-back titles against Cuthbertson at Reynolds Coliseum and the Dean Smith Center the past two seasons. The Vikings will square off against the North Rowan Cavaliers (22-5) at Reynolds on Saturday.

Undefeated East Carteret will go for their 32nd win of the year in Chapel Hill Saturday. The Mariners will have to do it against two-time defending state champion Winston-Salem Prep. The 2:30 game at the Dean Dome will mark the first state title appearance ever for East Carteret.

Stay tuned to WITN throughout the week for previews of these three games.
