GREENVILLE, N.C. – Following its final two-a-day of fall camp, East Carolina returned to Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex for its 17th workout with a two-hour morning session in shells.
Under the direction of fifth-year head coach Ruffin McNeill, the Pirates continued their mock game week working on redzone and goal line situations for 25 minutes in a pair of breakout unit sessions.
“It was a Wednesday-type practice for us where we are moving towards a regular game week and getting the kids to understand exactly what to expect,” McNeill said. “We had a little shorter day on Thursday, but made sure the reps counted and that we are getting better with each snap of the ball.”
East Carolina’s morning workout began with their customary offensive walk-through and positional drills before diving into periods of the quick game and routes in the air.
During 20 minutes of special teams work, the quarterbacks went through a series of drills, while the offensive and defensive lines concentrated on pass rush and blitz coverages.
Following 22 minutes of team-on-team action and ball security drills, the Pirates went through a conditioning segment with Coach (Jeff) Connors running eight 100-yard sprints under mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the upper-80’s.
“Friday’s practice will be like a regular in-season Thursday prep day,” McNeill explained. “Then we will move into the stadium for a closed controlled environment Saturday, where it will be as game-like as possible. Sunday we will officially be in game week prep, getting ready for North Carolina Central.”
Friday's Practice Time: 8:45 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Season Opener: Aug. 30 vs. North Carolina Central (8 p.m. EST)
